• Describe the hardware components of a personal computer.

• Describe information networks in relation to ICT.
• Describe ergonomic principles for computer workstations.
• Explain health and safety when working with computers.

This Unit Standard is intended for people who need to produce and edit documents using a GUI-based word processor either as a user of computers or as basic knowledge for a career in the ICT industry. A person credited with this unit standard is capable of:

• Using the desktop of a Graphical User Interface (GUI)-based operating system.
• Using the features of a GUI Window.
• Using of the Help facility in a GUI environment.
• Using a pointing device in a GUI environment.
• Using generic print options in a GUI environment.

116936 – Create and Edit Simple Databases

This unit standard is intended for people who need to create and edit simple databases using a Graphical User Interface (GUI)-based database application either as a user of computers or as basic knowledge for a career needing this competency, like the ICT industry. People credited with this unit standard are able to:

• Understand the principles of databases.
• Open and save a simple existing database.
• Produce and edit a simple database from given specifications.
• Data is entered into a simple database table from given specifications.
• Modify the design of a database table.
• Sort and search for records in a database table.

10135 – Work as a Project Team Member

This unit standard is a core standard and forms part of the qualification, National Certificate Project Management and is registered at Level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework. Learners accessing this standard will be involved in project management teams or building small project teams across sectors. It is also valuable for learners running their own businesses. The qualifying learner is capable of:

• Understanding the effects of HIV/AIDS on the immune system.
• Knowing how HIV/AIDS is transmitted.
• Knowing what behavior is safe and what behavior carries the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission.
• Knowing what guidelines and assistance are available to support workers with HIV/AIDS and recognising own role in creating a caring work environment.
• Understanding the implications of the HIV/AIDS pandemic for society, the economy, a business sub-sector, an organisation and a specific workplace.
