On 18 July 2025, the Training Portal team spent a truly unforgettable day at Engo Bloemfontein, joining the staff and children to mark Mandela Day in a way that was all about genuine connection. We saw an opportunity to bring smiles, spark inspiration and show the kids that they matter.
A Day of Purpose and Positivity
Our goal for the day was simple: to celebrate the children, remind them how valuable they are, and give them a reason to smile. From the start, the excitement was contagious. The kids lit up as they received their gifts from Training Portal, diving into the unwrapping with the kind of energy that makes you remember how special small moments can be. Their reaction said it all. At one point, they even broke into song, a spontaneous performance that completely caught us off guard in the best way. One boy was so into it, he started jumping as he sang, bursting with pride and joy. You couldn’t help but smile.
Feast and Fellowship
And what’s a celebration without some great food? Training Portal and Engo grilled up classic boerewors rolls that filled the air with that unmistakable South African braai smell. The kids couldn’t get enough. Many came back for seconds and thirds, happily chatting and enjoying every bite. It was a simple gesture, but one that meant so much to them and to us.
A Message That Will Never Be Forgotten
The manager of Engo shared some heartfelt words, saying that not many companies take the time to think of them, let alone spend a day simply being present and showing care. She told us how much it meant to see people doing something for the kids, not for recognition, but because we wanted to. Her words were a reminder that real impact doesn’t need bells and whistles. Sometimes, it’s about showing up, being kind, and doing what you can with what you have.
A Legacy Worth Living
Nelson Mandela once said: “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” On this Mandela Day, we lived that message.
We left Engo Bloemfontein with full hearts, big smiles, and a deeper appreciation for what it means to be part of something meaningful. The kids reminded us why we do what we do, and why we’ll keep doing it.
