One year ago, the Webers Valley Winelands Skill Centre opened its doors, born from a partnership between Training Portal and Usiko Stellenbosch, and driven by a shared commitment to create meaningful opportunity for South African youth.
What began as a vision has quickly become a movement.
In its first year, the centre enrolled 147 learners, each one gaining access to real-world skills and support designed to unlock their potential. Sixteen accredited learnerships have been activated, offering structured pathways into employment and entrepreneurship. With R1.3 million invested in skills development, the centre is not only equipping individuals, but building a stronger, more resilient community. Already, four students have secured employment, just the beginning of what’s to come.
But the true heart of this story isn’t in the data. It’s in the lives being transformed.
Nomakhwezi is one of those lives. She arrived at the centre carrying the weight of personal challenges, unsure of what the future could hold. Today, she’s training toward her dream of starting a sewing business, a goal once out of reach, now within her grasp. Her courage and growth reflect what becomes possible when access, support, and belief are aligned.
That alignment is no accident. It’s made possible by the care and leadership of Tania Weideman, our Stellenbosch Campus Manager, whose dedication has been vital in shaping a learning environment rooted in compassion, structure, and vision.
The first year of the Webers Valley Winelands Skill Centre is proof that impact is not just a concept, it’s a measurable, human reality.
We invite you to witness it for yourself. The full video captures this journey, the voices of our learners, and the transformation underway in the Cape Winelands.
